MEET PEYTON

Peyton’s Story

In 2010, Peyton was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 2 1/2.

After meeting all the milestones up to the age of 2, he never developed language above a few spoken words. Similar to so many families, the journey began to find a way for Peyton to communicate and to be able to function in this world. Many years of various therapies and traveling to see specialists across the country led to a place of despair and hopelessness. By the age of 10 , Peyton was still unable to communicate.

Fortunately, through a connection, Peyton was introduced to a program that taught him to spell on a letter board. This method proved to be a breakthrough for him as he finally was able to show his high level of intelligence and just as  important was able to finally express his thoughts and feelings.

Now, at the age of 13, Peyton’s life has significantly changed and his is now autonomous and thriving in this world. He is now utilizing a keyboard and moving towards the goal of typing independently.

What looked like a life of being trapped in his body, unable to communicate, has become a life of joy and desire to help others  who are struggling like he did for so many years. So here is Peyton’s story unfolding today as he starts his journey through The Peyton Project. The goal is to advocate and provide resources to those who are unable to communicate.
